Module: Race, Ethnicity and Immigration in the US & UK.

Theme: Explaining issues facing both immigrants and Government in Britain.

Student's name: B. Meryem.

The issue of immigration in Britain had put both immigrants and the host country (Britain) in a delicate situation. A big proportion of the residents of the United Kingdom mainly having afro-Caribbean, Asians or European origin are facing social disadvantages and a big economic disability when the government also is subject to high criticism from the different ethnic groups forming the British population.

It is estimated that one in two people of Asian origin is living in poverty; initially due to the high rate of unemployment among this group. However, the main cause of employment the Asians community is suffering of; goes to the fact that  many private as well as national firms , companies, institutions  ……..etc , refuse to offer them jobs even when the job seeker  complies  with the required qualifications. This factor had led many people to be self-employed. Hence, it commonplace in Britain to find many Asians ;( Indian, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis) as shopkeepers, car drivers or take away holders. Nevertheless, there is also a considerable proportion of immigrants who are full time workers especially in the National Health Services.

Besides the immigrant's sufferings from inequality in all aspects of life, the British government is also facing perpetual challenges as ; the provision of a kind of  economic , educational and health equality between the different ethnic groups.  It had to give answers to the increasingly white Britons grievances, when complaining that immigrations tend to be more likely benefiting from certain national programs while they (white population) should be the prioritized. Council housing is a good example.

When some complain about immigrants taking their houses others, accuse them of taking their jobs, it is the case of the polish immigrants, who tend to be perceived as source of a cheap labour, which could lead to a kind of deregulation of the British living standard.

The British government has also to deal with economic immigrants who enter the United Kingdom annually, coming from very poor regions of the world like Africa, and where some of them are holders of dangerous diseases like the TB and the HIV.

The increasing number of the English language teaching schools to the Non-English speaker children is putting a high burden for the government since it is a source of funding for  these schools.

We come to conclude that; both the immigrant's daily suffering and the government increasing responsibilities towards its different ethnic groups were the pure creation of immigrations.
